In my view, the greatest "threat" to our electoral process are "desperate politicians"from all political divides and not the INEC as many people would want us to believe. Our politicians are the alleged sponsors of electoral violence, votes- buying, ballot boxes snatching and stuffing, and or electoral materials destruction which lead to "voided votes" and subsequently inconclusive elections.

Politicians and not the INEC are largely to blame even though they are only taking the advantage of the "loopholes" in our governance system which provides for high financial incentives and or attraction.

However, this does not in anyway ignore the fact that, INEC must reorganize itself. It is pertinent to state that, the behaviour of some of its officials is largely unpatriotic. Notwithstanding, If truth be told, the political behaviour of our politicians of nowadays needed much to be desired.

In my observation, the high level of "financial attraction" of our political system is largely  responsible for the high level of desperation among our politicians. Politicians struggle for power using "do" or "die" appraoch because of its high financial attraction.

The "leakages" in our political system makes a lot of businessmen to abandon their businesses for politics. It is a "paradox" to note that in Nigeria there is more money in politics than in business. It appears that, politics is now a Blue chip investment. In the develop world there is less money in politics, but only prominence.

In my suggestion , if we must get it right, we must device a means of making leadership position less financially attractive. As long as leadership position remains highly attractive, God forbid, electoral violence would only continue to rise. As people and a country, we must have a rethink on this.

Corruption in the political system serves as an "incentive" to desperate politicians who have no business being in politics. We must continue to evolve deliberate measures using "modern technology" in order to curb corruption in our governance system. We must  also provide a stiffer punishment for electoral offenders.

More so, it is only if the "system" is changed to be less politically corrupt and financially attractive that unpatriotic politicians will give way to patiotric Nigerians who only want to "serve" not to be served to take over the political space.

May God bless Nigeria!
