Are the Minister of communication, Chairman Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC),Executive Chairman Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) and Consumer Protection Council of Nigeria(CPC) aware of the ongoing "unsolicited"or "automatic" subscription to customers accounts at a chargeable fees by MTN,GLO,AirTeL,and Etisalat etc.?
The following is the method used by the GSM companies in making billions from customers unjustly:
"Dear Customer, your subscription to Callertunez service has been renewed successfully and N50.00 deducted from your account. This service will expire and auto renew on 2018-02-17. To cancel, text NO to 4100. Dial *410# to enjoy more tunez".
Perhaps the telecommunications companies are aware that : A lot of customers cannot "read" and "write" in English. A lot of customers even if they can "read in English "do not care to "read" their messages from GSM companies. A lot of customers "delete" their messages without reading it .
This tactics of making billions without customers consent must change or stop. In my humble opinion, the GSM companies in Nigeria must change their pattern of making "billions" from the customers. Is automatic subscription not a fraud or an extortion or an exploitation or a misconduct and or corruption? The issue of automatic subscription did not start now. It has been happen for years. I humbly advice the GSM companies to stop this practice forthwith in the interest of Justice.
The Minister of communication , Executive Chairman of NCC,Chairman of EFCC and CPC should and or must wake up and do their work effectively.
My hope is that we will all have a "win-win situation". In view of that, my advice to subscribers is that, please, always read all your texts messages. Check all messages! To the management of all the GSM companies is that , please, order the immediate stopage of this practice . And to the regulators, please, make sure that you do your Job of protecting the general public.
This method employed by the GSM companies is not a justifiable marketing strategy .For me, it is unfair. There are thousands of lawful marketing strategies but certainly not this. Subscription should and must be by "order" or "consent" of the customers. subscription must be by the request of the customers. We need positive change in this regard.
