I refer to the page 21 of the Daily Trust of the 23rd of January, 2019 with the aforementioned caption . However, permit me to rejoice with the good people of Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State on the occasion of the recent Federal Executive Councils approvals for the rehabilitation of New Busa -Kaiama federal road which is both in Niger and Kwara states.

I once had a course to write a piece in the Daily Trust of 15th March, 2018 on the continuous suffering of the good people of Kaiama LG after I read a story in the Daily Trust of Monday, 5th March, 2018 on the issue of bad roads which I knew about ten years ago when I served as a "corps member"during my NYSC in Government Day Secondary School, Kaiama.

In the said piece, I observed that , the people of Kaiama LG knows "little" or "nothing" about the existence of both the state and federal governments in terms of roads constructions, maintainance , and rehabilitations.I have also pleaded with the authorities both the state and federal governments to come to the aid of the suffering people of Kaiama LG.

It is my great pleasure to note that, one of the said yeanings has been answered by the federal government by approving the rehabilitation of New Busa -Kaiama road. I had argued somewhere that my conscience will hardly forgive me, if I don't share their "pain" with me over their decades of neglect by the authorities. For Kaiama people are very hospitable.

Plying the rough -dusty road of Kaiama from whichever axis is very pathetic. There are three access roads to Kaiama, all first generation federal roads and all in deplorable states.

The roads from Kaiama-Illorin; Kaiama-Kusobosu; Kaiama-Bode Saadu; Kaiama -Kisi; Kaiama- New Bussa etc., are all in terrible states. From Illorin to Kaiama is "Hell". An ordinary journey of about 3 hours, might take you about 7 hours due to bad roads. From New Busa to Kaiama is another "Hell".

Kaiama LG has weekly Yam markets at Kaiama, Gwarya, Aboki, Dageji, Kara, and Lara etc.,which are terribly affected with bad roads. Rehabilitations of Kaiama roads could help the federal government's Yam export drive due to its Yam fortunes. Kaiama LG could contribute a lot with good roads in place.

Kaiama is a farming community with huge potential of "Yam" farming. Kaiama is said to be the largest producer of "Yam flour" in North Central Nigeria. Yam is grown all year round in Kaiama. It has a fertile land which does not even need fertilizer.

Kaiama Development Association argues thus: "This decision of the council is so far the biggest development effort that has come the way of the people of Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State since Independence ..."

Once again, permit to rejoice with the good people of Kaiama. May the Almighty Allah make the project a reality.

May God bless Nigeria!
