In my suggestion , after this year's round of salaries adjustment, the best thing for the labour unions to embark on going forward in order to improve the welfare of their members, is to continue to seek for more and more government's investments in four major areas which I will discuss shortly . These areas I believe will not only assist its workers, but also the general public.

To have mixed feelings on salary increment is not to be ignorant of the fact that, its increment after every five years is provided by our laws. Our major concern is that, salary increment would certainly lead to inflation in the country thereby reducing the value of whatever increment.

In my observation, four major things take away a chunk of workers' salaries, namely: (1) House Rent, (2) School Fees, (3) Medical Bills, and (4) Transportation. The Labour leadership should push for more and more investments in these areas for the betterment of not only its members, but the entire economy.

Please, get my message correctly, our workers deserve a better welfare. They equally deserve a "living"and not a "starvation wages". It is legimate for an employee to demand for an improve welfare from his employer .

However, in my submission the Labour leadership should demand for the following :

HOUSING: As it were, a lot of workers spend more than 30% of their annual salaries on House- Rent due to poor Housing policy in the country. The Labour Union should demand for a better National Housing Policy that will reduce the cost of rent or enable its workers to acquire houses over their service years.

HEALTH: Medical Bills consummes a lot of money from workers' salaries due to collapse public hospitals. The Labour should demand for better public health care facility which will in turn reduce its cost thereby saving a lot of workers' income.

EDUCATION: School fees takes a lot money from workers' salaries due to our mal functional public schools. The Labour should demand for better public schools in order to crash the cost of education which will in turn save its members a lot thereby improving their welfare.

TRANSPORTATION: As it were, transportation cost takes a lot of money from workers' salaries. The Labour should demand for better transport policy which will enable its workers to purchase their cars or afford cheap public transportation. There should be vehicle loans for workers which if properly implemented will save a lot of money from workers' salaries.

If the labour unions pursue the above- mentioned they will not only benefit its members, but also the general public.

May God bless Nigeria!
