Permit me to add my voice on the politics of endorsements by some faction of Afenifere, Middle Belt Forum (MBF), Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a faction of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), and Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF). These bodies have jointly endorsed the candidacy of PDP's Presidential candidate, Alh. Atiku Abubakar for 2019 General Elections.

Socio-Cultural Organizations in Nigeria or more correctly put, elite groups, are associations of elite who are (or were) not "elected" by the popular votes of the "masses", but by few "select privilege elite"in the society. These groups have been taking "decisions"on behalf of the "masses" without even consultation either through a "Town Hall" meeting or a "Referendum". The issue now is, will the masses whom decisions are being taken on their behalf without their input abide by it?

In my view, our Socio-Cultural Organizations should be Non-Partisan pressure groups. Their role should not be dabbling into partisan politics, but that of keeping the government on its toes on its basic responsibilities of governance.

In my observation , what our Socio-Cultural groups should have done was to tell the electorates to conduct themselves peacefully on election day and cast their votes on a candidate they thing will better their lots. It baffles one to note that, these groups have regrettably become Partisan.

It is important to note that, many political pundits have often question the leadership legitimacy of these Socio -Cultural groups Much less the "mandate"to make decisions on our behalf. Some political observers have often alleged that our Socio-Cultural groups are nothing, but "Elite Opportunity Seekers' Group ".

In my suggestion, since we are in a Democracy, our Socio-Cultural groups should try to legitimize their leadership selection process by making it Elite-Masses leadership driven through popular elections. They should also try to democratize their decision making process where the input of the masses will be collated before taking any major decision.

However, the question begging for an answer now is, will elite endorsement determines the winner of the 2019 General election? Do these elite have the mandate of the masses? Only time will tell!

Any keen political observer of Nigerian politics will nothing but, agree that with the "exception"of the 2015 General elections where the Nigerian "masses" largely installed President Muhammadu Buhari as the "First ever leader fronted by the "masses" not by the “Elite".The Elite have always produced leaders for Nigerians.

If one travels through the historical antecedents of our leaders past and how they ascend to power, one will but acknowledge the fact that, all our leaders past were either leaders producd by “elite fronting” or anointment or were leaders by accidents.

May God bless Nigeria!
