The role of government in a modern economy from America, Russia, India to China is empowering the "private sector" with favourable policies in order to thrive . Modern governments support their private sector with huge investments in security and other critical infrastructure for them to create jobs for their citizens.
Ours is maintaining over bloated public service to which, in my observation, is only serving the few privilege Nigerians at the expense of the majority.
The following are some agencies under the Ministry of Information and Culture :
1) Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation ,(2)National Commission for Museums and Monuments ,(3) National Gallery of Art, (4) Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization, (5) National Institute for Culture Orientation, (6) National Council of Arts and Culture, (7) National Troupe and National Threatre of Nigeria, and (8)Nigerian Institute for Hospitality and Tourism.
In my view, the biggest issue that should have dominated our "national discuss"on both "social" and "conventional"media is the"relevance"or "otherwise"of the existence of too many government agencies, commissions and research institutes to the development of our country. Make no mistake, this does not in anyway "relegate" the "intensity"of the avoidable "blunder" of appointing dead people by the federal government . I do hope that, the Buhari administration has learnt it's"bitter lessons"over the said "unfortunate"yet "avoidable"mistake.
When were these agencies established? Are they still serving their purposes ? Are they adding value to the country ? Are their workers going to work Or are only receiving monthly alerts? Are there no doublication of functions in some of them? What are their importance ? Do we need to merge some of them? Do we still need them? Are the agencies serving majority of Nigerians or only few privilege ones?
Where are our scholars, professionals, Analysts, patriots? In my view, we need a national dialogue on this. We need a national consensus on same. Let's begin debate on their relevance or otherwise!
May God bless Nigeria!
