In my view, the biggest issue that should have dominated our "national discuss"on both "social" and "conventional"media is the"relevance"or "otherwise"of the existence of too many government agencies, commissions and research institutes to the development of our country. Make no mistake, this does not in anyway "relegate" the "intensity"of the avoidable "blunder" of appointing dead ones by the federal government . I do hope that, the Buhari administration has learnt it's"bitter lessons"over  the said "unfortunate"yet "avoidable"mistake.

President Muhammadu Buhari has on Friday, 30 December, 2017 appointed 209 board chairmen and 1, 258 members of government owned agencies and parastatals. Out of which by my record we have about 24 research institutes with some of them especially in the agricultural sector having a somewhat doublicate functions in my understanding. I stand to be corrected! No doubt researches are needed for national development.

When were these research institutes established? Are they still serving their purposes ? Are they making researches ? Are their workers going to work Or are only receiving monthly alerts? Are there no doublication of functions in some of them? What are their research findings? Do we still need them?

Are our universities not  meant for researches? As far as I know, university lecturers are employed for lecturing as well as researching in their respective areas of specialization. Why can't we properly fund our professors in the universities to embark on researches ? Why can't we use the findings  of our undergraduates projects, M.sc theses, and PhD Dissertations from our respective universities for development purposes.

In the advanced countries of the world apart from government funding of researches in the universities, private funding also goes to the  universities. Philanthropers ,private companies, non-profit foundations, charity organizations and professional organizations fund researches .  Philanthropers and foundations have been known to pour millions of dollars into a wide variety of scientific investigations.

The following are the research institutes:
(1) Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR)Zaria, (2) Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T) Ibadan, (3)National Cereal Research Institute (NCRI)Niger, (4)National Root Crop Research Institute (NRCRI), Abia, (5)National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT), Ibadan,(6)
