To begin with, Education and Health which are very critical to human development should remain as "social services" not business ventures from primary to tertiary levels. Private individuals could run educational and health sectors as business ventures, but the government should run its own as social services.

In what appears to be a Justification of the plan increment of Tuition Fees by the management of Kaduna State University,KASU via a Special Bulletin issued. The management argues that, N400million is being spent monthly for staff salaries which is equavalent to N4.8billion annually. It further states that 25million is being spent as monthly overhead cost while the school generates only 765, 855, 671.

In my thought, the running of educational and health sectors of the economy should not be measured in terms of profit and loss model. These sectors should remain as social services not business ventures. I share the thought that we could employ the profit and loss model in the management of other sectors of the economy, but certainly not the education and health sectors. Let's use surpluses from other sectors of the economy to fund the deficit in our social services.

I strongly believe that virtually all aspects of governance in Nigeria needs a reform for efficiency and effectiveness, but our educational and health sectors reform should be in line with social services model not profit and loss model.

In my observation, one of  the fallacies of socialist thinkers is that all aspects of governance should be run on social services model. In my view, running all aspects of governance on social services model is practically impossible as well as unsustainable.

On the other hand, the extreme views of  capitalist thinkers that all aspects of governance could be run as a business venture with profit and loss model is excessive as well as unreasonable.

In my thought, the middle ground is that some aspects of governance must be run as business ventures while others as social services. Our surpluses from the efficient and effective management of other sectors of the economy could be used to fund our social services sectors. Education and health sectors should remain a social services from primary to tertiary levels.

May God bless Kaduna State!
