BETWEEN THE OPPONENTS OF SUBSIDY REMOVAL IN 2012 AND ITS SUPPORTERS WHAT HAS CHANGED ALONE THE LINE? ACCEPTING A SUPERIOR ARGUMENT IS A VIRTUE !

To begin with, is a virtue to accept a “superior argument” if convinced that it is better than yours! To stick to an “inferior argument” having been convinced that there is a “superior argument” amounts to “dishonesty” and “cowardice”. It is no news to say that, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinibu, Pastor Dunde Bakari, Professor Wole Soyinka, Femi Falana,Governor Nasir El-Rufa’I , Senator Shehu Sani, and Senator Dino Malaye etc., opposed and partook in the subsidy removal protest in 2012.

If president Buhari once said: “ I did not know what subsidy is” because he was not convinced about its “payment” or removal or he believed that he could deal with the “corruption” in the subsidy over “bloated” payments which suddenly rose from about N260billion in 2009 to about N1.3trillion in 2013 without  the corresponding increase in the number of cars in the country  and now the new facts or reality shows that the only way to deal with the “corruption” in the oil industry which is about the 60% share of the total corruption being done in Nigeria is to stop it, I consider that as a “bold” and “honest” step. President Buhari has repeated told Nigerians that he refused to “devalue” the “Naira” because he was not convinced about its benefits to an import dependant / consumer based economy like ours. If president Buhari is now convinced with advice from majority of his ministers and industry players in the oil and gas industry, I see that as “honesty”
If Governor Nasir El-Rufa’I opposed subsidy removal in 2012 because he was not convinced about its removal or did not “trust” President Jonathan’s ability to properly use the savings from the removal, but now is convinced with its removal because he trusts the “leadership qualities” of president Buhari to use the savings for roads, hospitals, schools, housing etc., I see his new position as honest and courageous.

On the other hand, If Senator Shehu Sani opposed subsidy removal in 2012 because he did not believe in its removal or did not trust president Jonathan’s ability to use the savings properly and still did not in 2016 or did not believe in the “integrity” of president Buhari to manage the “savings” in the provision of social amenities that is his “personal opinion”.

If Senator Bola Ahmed Tinibu opposed subsidy removal in 2012 just because he was not convinced about its removal or did not “trust” President Jonathan then and now he is convinced that subsidy be removed because he trust the leadership of president Buhari I see his new position as “honest” and “courageous”. If Senator Dino Malaye opposed subsidy removal because he was not convinced or did not trust President Jonathan in 2012 and is still not convinced about its removal in 2016 or did not trust the leadership of president Buhari is his “personal opinion”.

Subsidy removal has been supported by many industry players! Subsidy removal will make everybody become an oil business man not selected few. Convince me on anything I am willing to accept! If am convinced to accept a “reality” after I sent years opposing it, I consider it as a “good virtue” not defeat! Accept really is never a defeat but rather a courage!

  May God bless Nigeria!
