Youthful exuberance requires elders maturity. This is why I believe in the combination of youth and the elderly in leadership positions. We need peace in the country irrespective of provocations. Do not look at sensitive issues from one perspective.
Permit me to argue that the 3 months "QUIT" notice or "ULTIMATUM " issued to the Igbos to leave the North by the section of some youth groups in the North might have been possibly sponsored or triggered by either of the following:
(1) THE OPPONENT OF THE BUHARI ADMINISTRATION:
It is a fact that few weeks back the country's media had reported an alleged attempted military coup. The Chief of Army Staff had earlier on warned the military men from hobnobbing some politicians. The Army Headquarters had to come on air in order to clear the air on the issue of the alleged coup. Believers of conspiracy theory would say the opponent of the present government could possibly sponsor these youth in order to cause instability in the country. Their aims could possibly be to trigger political instability in the land which definitely distract the government of the day or even provide enough grounds for military coup.
The primary function of every government is protection of lives and properties of its citizens. It is possible from the conspiracy theory perspectives that some disgruntled elements from both the North and South might sponsor these youth in order to trigger a political instability that might provide enough grounds for the military to takeover. Everyone knows if you fight corruption as the usual saying it has many ways of fighting back. Nigerians are united by corruption.
(2) BIAFRA ADVOCATES:
Some believers of conspiracy theory would say the renewed agitation for Biafra is politically motivated or sponsored as a fallout of the 2015 general elections. Biafra agitation was relatively calmed during the six years of the previous government. Niger Delta militants were also calmed throughout the tenure of the previous government. Biafra agitation and Niger Delta militancy got renewed immediately the present government assumed power.
The believers of conspiracy theory might say It is possible that Pro- Biafra agitators might have taken the advantage of our unemployed youth through proxies in order to use them and cause political instability in the country in order to bring down the government of the day which of course might be unknown to the youth.
It true that some Igbos believe in breaking away from Nigeria which they have been pursuing for over fifty years now. It is equally true, In my understanding that a lot of Igbos especially those staying outside South- East geopolitical zone do not believe in Biafra. From the conspiracy theory perspectives pro Biafra agitators could go to any length in order to achieve their dream country.
(3) GENUINE CONCERNS:
It is possible that the quit notice or ultimatum issued by the sections of some Arewa youth is out of a genuine concern for the years of provocation and intimidation by the pro Biafra agitators. However, In my humble opinion, the Arewa youth groups should have spoken through their Governors or Senators or Federal House of Representatives or State House of Assembly members or Arewa Consultative Forum. The youth should not have adopted the Biafran style.
Let's investigate the youth in order to find out whether their action is out of genuine concerns or sponsored by some disgruntled elements.
SOME LESSONS:
In my view, South-East leaders must learn from Northern leaders. The Northern leaders have shown a lot of maturity in handling the issue of this quit notice or ultimatum. Kashim Shettima as the leader of Northern Governors who have spoken on behalf of them must be commended. More so, the the Governor of Kaduna state must also be commended in my humble opinion.
However, the Arewa youth groups must be investigated if found that their action is based on genuine concern not sponsored by some disgruntled elements, In my suggestion, they should be pardoned and guided accordingly.
May God bless Nigeria!
