In my observation , Nigeria suffers from a "deficit" of "patriots" among its "leaders" and "followers". I strongly believe that, nation's building regires patriots. In my Judgement, majority of Nigerias' leaders , get me right, not all of them, from Independence to date have been largely self-centered rather than selfless.

However, It is now crystal clear that, 2019 General Elections is not longer going to be about ones "age" as some people before the presidential primaries had wanted it to be.The candidates of the two major political parties are both above 70yrs of age.

More so, it is unlikely going to be about ones' Ethnicity, Religion and Region which were uppermost in the 2015 Elections discuss. The issues that are likely going to dominate the Electioneering Campaigns are : Corruption, Restructuring, Integrity, Jobs creation, Security, Economy, and or ones Past records of public service.

I had earlier on observed that, some politicians before the presidential primaries wanted to use AGE FACTOR as their campaign selling points for 2019 Elections. At least, that has gone to sleep! In my humble view , the quest for credible leadership is beyond age factor. For me, it is about: Competency, ability, capacity, honesty, track records, ideas, vision, transparency, accountability and patriotism among others.

I have always believed that, the capacity of the candidates should and or must be the concern of all electorate. Nigeria by its history has always been governed by a relatively young people (people below 60 years of age). So, If there are categories of ages to blame for its "leadership failure"the young will take a fair share of it.

Sir Abubakar T. Balewa became Prime Minister at the age of 49. Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Ceremonial President at 51. General Ironsi at 42. General Gowon at 32. General Murtala at 37. General Obasanjo at 38. President Shagari at 54. General Buhari at 41.General Babangida at 44. Chief Shokekan at 55. General Abacha at 49. General Abubakar at 56. President Obasanjo(civilian) at 62. President Yar'adua at 56.President Jonathan at 53. President Buhari (civilian) at 73.

However, I am a firm believer of the combination of both the "young" and the "old" in leadership position not on the basis of their ages per se, but capacity . In my thought, the society will benefit from the youthful exuberance of a competent young leader just as it will benefit from the maturity of a competent old leader.

Well meaning Nigerians must be "wary" of there standards of living. But on the other hand, my message to Nigerians is that, let's get it right at all levels , let's be wary of a movement from frying pan into the fire.

May God bless Nigeria!
