I do hope one must have read part one of this write ups. In my humble opinion, if our political parties are formed based on political Ideology , the issue of defection from one party to the other would not have arisen. We need a vibrant opposition party will serve as a check to the ruling party and or an alternative.

Nigerian political parties In the first Republic through the second Republic had a semblance of political parties Ideology. The Northern People Congress ,NPC and National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroon ( later Council of Nigeria Citizens), NCNC one could argue that they were both more in tune with the Right- Wing political Ideology. For Action Group, AG and Northern Element Progressive Union, NEPU one could argue that they were both more of the Left-Wing political Ideology.

More so, in the Second Republic the then National Party of Nigeria, NPN one could say it was more of the Right-Wing Ideology with a clear cut policy on massive Housing Development. The then Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN was of the Left-Wing Ideology with a Policy on education for all. For the then Peoples Redemption Party, PRP one could argue that it was of the Left-Wing political Ideology with anti-tax policy.

If we must get it right, our politicians must stop from seeking for political power by all means. Let's build our party support base on a political Ideology. Politicians in Nigeria must begin to galvanize their support through promoting a particular politico-economic ideology. On the other hand, Electorate in Nigeria if we must get it right, we must support political leaders base on their politico-economic ideologies.

WHAT IS LEFT- WING POLITICAL IDEOLOGY?

The term “left” is widely used to denote social systems and ideologies of socialism, communism, “progressivism”. Left - Wing political deology In politics, is the portion of the political spectrum associated with egalitarianism and state control of the major institutions of political and economic life. Socialism is the standard leftist ideology in most countries of the world. Left -wing politics supports social equality and equal opportunities, often in opposition to social hierarchy and social inequality.

More so, Left-wing politics supports social equality and equal opportunities. It typically involves a concern for those in society whom its adherents perceive as disadvantaged relative to others ( prioritarianism ), as well as a belief that there are unjustified inequalities that need to be reduced or abolished (by advocating for social justice). The term left wing can also refer to "the radical , reforming, or socialist section of a political party or system".

However, In my humble submission, some of the ways to stop rampant political parties defection in Nigeria is to:(1) legalize independent candidacy; (2) Criminalize defections for whatever excuses by elected officials only;(3)To be forming political parties base on Ideology; and(4) Electorate should base their support for political parties/candidates base on their ideologies.

We need a vibrant opposition party in Nigeria! May God bless Nigeria!
