Governor Nasir El-Rufai’I knows his “onions” as he plans to rework Kaduna State economy again. The Governor unveils his plans of “Investing” N5billion in 30 megawatts electricity supply from Gurara Dam in order to power the whole of Kakuri Industrial layout as a means of reviving the collapsed industries in the area. The people of Kaduna lost over 10,000 “direct jobs” from the closure of the textiles industries only; another 10,000 “indirect jobs” might have been lost also. The government lost a lot of money that might have accrued to its as “Tax revenue” due to the closure.

“…I believe he has the qualities required to make Kaduna state great again. These qualities are firstly competence, integrity and courage. I have seen the way El-Rufa’I handled Abuja, we know that El-Rufa’I loves this country, and he is endowed with these three qualities I have mentioned.” So, please, people of Kaduna state, I am not being arrogant, I am just being honest, if you vote El-Rufa’I, you are not doing him a favour, but you are doing yourself a favour.” El- Rufa’I is a kind of person that will respect you if you respect yourself, and if you don’t respect yourself, he will help you go down the drain. I am here deliberately to ask for your support and understanding for El-Rufa’I…” – President Buhari (The Polity 12th October, 2014- 19th November, 2014, page, 9).

Kakuri Industrial estate is well known in the past to be with a lot of economic activities; the area has companies such as: Arewa Textiles PLC, Kaduna Textiles Limited (KTL), Nortex, Finetex, Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (PAN), NOCACO, MIA Group of Company, Euro Foam, Rich Flour, Flour Mill, Peak Aluminum, Kal Extrusion, Total Steel Limited, Coca-Cola, United Wire Limited, Ardo Plastic, Ardo Oil & Gas, Crital Hope ,KFCC, etc .,which before now employed thousands of people, but unfortunate all the textiles have closed shops. The few companies that are still in operation are mostly operating blow 30% of their installed capacities due to the epileptic power supply in the area.

The government of Kaduna state under Governor Nasir El-rufa’I understands the fact that no country will develop without “Development planning”. “Failure to plan is planning to fail, is better to plan and fail than to fail to plan”. In the first republic there was “National Development plans” on 5 years basis which were implemented until the 4th “National Development plan” which was abandoned since then we lacked focus. An Associate Professor of Economics of the University of Abuja, Nazifi Abdullahi Darma once said in an interview that, he visited India last year found out that India has just commenced the implementation of their 13th “National Development Plan”. This means that Indian has been running 5 years “National Development Plans” for 60 consecutive years. China has also successfully implemented 5 years “National Development Plan” for 60 years.

Kaduna State Development Plan-2016-2020 was preferred tagged Delivering on jobs, social justice and prosperity evinces the state policy priorities, fiscal realism and evidence based goals and targets. Governor stated at the Kaduna Business and Investment Summit that the plan requires the investment of N1.5trillion. He further said, the state government is expected to invest N700billion while the private sector is expected to provide N800billion.
If set target is finally achieved a lot of jobs will be created, government revenue will increase, and business activities will be improved not only in Kaduna State but also in the entire Northern region. In view of the governor’s stellar performance in his previous public offices I have no doubt that the governor will make Kaduna great again. “… we are very confident in the governor of  Kaduna state ,Malam Nasir El-Rufa’I, his competence and character have never come under any doubt” -Kashim Shettima, Governor of Borno State.

“Over the years it has become clear to me that to succeed in public service, one must have acquired a certain level of anger with failures as a society and be willing to damn all consequences to change things for better. To do so, the public leader must be competent and prepared academically, professionally, and experientially for leadership role, that is, one must be a round peg in a round hole. Then the person needs staff, both the core around him and support staff that are smarter than him in many areas, younger and harder working possibly, older and more experienced in other areas, to handle the sub-tasks needed to succeed in the leadership assignment”-Nasir El-Rufa’I (Accidental Public Service: P. 86).

The governor needs support from all and sundry in order to make Kaduna great again not unnecessary distraction; we are no more in the period of campaign but rather governance. Interestingly, the governor has refused to be distracted!
“Sometimes what is good is not popular and what is popular is not necessarily good” -Chief Audu Ogbe, Minister of Agriculture.

May God bless Kaduna State!
