Here is my "tribute" to someone whom I never met "in person", but have benefited immensely from her "fountain" of "knowledge"through her authorship. Professor (Mrs) Pheobean Ajibola Ogundipe, one of the three authors of a legendary English Grammar book, called "Brighter Grammar" died on the 27th of March, 2020 in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA , at 92. She co-authors the renowned book with C. E.  Eckersley and Margaret Macaulay.

Pemit me to say, one of the ways to outlive oneself is by authorship. It is possible for someone's "impact"to be felt "thousands" of years after his or her death. Mrs Ogundipe has indeed , "make her mark", we cannot thank her enough! For I and many others drank from the "fountain" of her "knowledge".

There are three most important things in every language which are: Grammar, Vocabulary and Phonics. In my view, grammar is the most important thing in every language. Mrs Ogundipe's works which I benefited a lot is on English Grammar. I will for ever remain grateful to her immense contributions to knowledge. May the Almighty God give her immediate family, students, and loved ones the fortitude to bear her irreparable loss.

Mrs Ogundipe was born in May 16, 1927 in Esa Oke, Osun State and got married to Mr Adebayo Ogundipe in 1954. She was educated at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and the Institute of Education, University of London. She was a famous author of English Language books, an educationist, a Senior Education Officer, an Inspector of Education in the defunct Western State of Nigeria, She later became the Principal of the Adeyemi College of Education in Ondo State. She got National honour of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) in 1979.

She was famous for English Language books such as Brighter Grammar series which she co-authored with M. Macaulay and C.E. Eckersley; New Practical English for Senior Secondary series which she co-authored with P.S. Tregidgo; a novel, Up-country Girl: A personal journey and truthful portrayal of African culture, among others.

Adieu Mrs Ogundipe!

May God bless Nigeria!
