Permit me to pay part of a great deal of "debt" which I and many of my like minds "owe" to our tutor, counselor, and a mentor in the person of Mal. Munir Malanta who was popularly known as "Mai Gwado" in his hometown of Wukari, Taraba state who died on the 29th of May, 2015 after a protracted illness.
The late Mr. Malanta was born in 1966 at No.18 , Ban Malam Street, Wukari Taraba State. He attended Nurul Islam Primary School, Wukari; Government Day Secondary School, GDSS, Wukari. He continued at Government Secondary School, GSS, Sharada, Kano; and later Government Secondary School, GSS, Bichi; Kano. He went to FCE Kano for his NCE Hausa/Social Studies. He obtained his Bsc in Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Though he was born in Wukari, Taraba state, he went to Kano in his early life time. He first stayed in Yala, Kano with his uncle and later on in Gwammaja, Kano. As a trained educationist while in the city of Kano, he taught many people from far and near. Before he left Kano, he taught in Gwauron Duste at the house of the famous Kano billionaire, late Khalifa, Sheikh Isiyaka Rabi'u as an Extramural lesson teacher.
His return to Kaduna from Kano was essentially due to the influence of General A.T. Ibrahim , the then registrar of NDA, Kaduna in order to join the State Security Service, SSS popularly known as the DSS which as destiny had it was never to be. He taught at Clara Nursery, Primary and Secondary School, Kaduna; Nurul Islam Nursery, Primary and Secondary school, U/Kanawa Kaduna and Ma'ahad Ulumuddeenil Islam, Kaduna. Before his death, he rose to the position of principal at Nurul Islam U/Kanawa and Vice principal academics at Ma'ahad Ulumuddeennil Islam, Kaduna.
Mal. Munir as we called him was patient, kind, generous, dedicated, and progressive. His neatness and or cleanness was legendary. He abhored dirtiness! As a teacher, he was versatile, but was particularly gifted in English which he taught with authoriry. He was very good in the Test of Oral of English language which is very hard to most English teachers, let alone their students .
He was very concerned about the education of youth in his community and its evirons which made him organized an extramural lesson to the youth free of charge in the community. Due to his strong desire to get his students passed their WAEC examinations, he invited his friends from the community and beyond to contribute their own quotas towards the successess of the students which went successfully.
More so, he invited the likes of Mal. Usman Umar now a Lecturer in the Accounting Department of Kaduna Polytechnic ; Dr Saminu Mohammad now a HOD in the Department of Electrical Electronics, NDA, Kaduna; Late Auwal Ibrahim who was then a corps member ; Sadeeq Idris Abubakar popularly known as Kawu in the community and Mr Daniel Joseph who all contributed their quotas.
Apart from organizing extramural lesson to secondary school students, students from the universities, polytecnics, and colleges of education usually went to him for counselling and tutorship free of charge. He assisted many people happily ! We owe him a great deal of debt of gratitude. For we had drunk a lot from the fountain of his knowledge. We will forever remain grateful to our great tutor. We equally remain grateful to all our above mentioned tutors who did their very best too.
However, the people of U/Shanu, Abapka, U/Kanawa, U/Dosa, U/Sarki and Badarawa communities and beyond are particularly highly "indebted" to Mal. Munir for he had helped their children a lot educationally. Some of whom are now senior military, police, customs, immigration, NIA, DSS, and prison service officers etc. There are now many universities , polytechnics and colleges of education graduands among his students. There are also universities, polytecnics, and FCE lecturers etc., among them too.
His life has no doubt "impacted" the lives of many people. He had indeed "imparted" knowledge to many people. He died five years ago and left behind his wife Maryam and two kids: Abdulraham and Isah. May the Almighty Allah bless what he left behind. May he grant him Aljannatur Firdaus.
May He give us the fortitude to bear his irreparable loss. Adieu our tutor, counselor and mentor!
