In my modest view, exams "cheaters" are seriously fighting. Exams cheaters must not to be allowed to be victorious. Joint Admission and Matriculation Board(JAMB) has moved from strength to strength all in an attempt to stop exams mal practice. I remember the Paper-Type- System. The Post UME introduced by the universities in not distance past was essentially due to lack of confidence on the quality of your candidates where students with good JAMB scores ended up not scoring up to 1.00 point of CGPA in the university. Perhaps they were assisted by machinery at the miracle centers.
As we heard, there is "serious pressure" from parents on your Computer Based Test (CBT). Most parents want the abolishment of CBT citing lack of computer knowledge by their children. However, in my understanding, the people calling for the cancellation are not genuine parents but owners of miracle centers who lost business since the introduction of CBT. Get me right, I am not saying CBT is perfect! There is no "perfect system ". You must improve on the use of computer for conducting exams but certainly not completely abandoning it.
Professor Is-hag JAMB boss said:" the board will not revert to the old paper and pencil mode, but adopt an eight - key device that will eradicate the challenges of computer illiteracy and phobia for use of mouse by some candidates.General feedback on the adoption of the Computer Based Test mode showed low computer literacy level of some candidates as well as phobia for the use of mouse...the board has designed a system that will allow candidates use only eight keys without the use of mouse. All the candidates need to do is press the letters A,B,C,D for responses to questions and keys: P,N,S and R representing; previous question, Next question, Submit and Reverse, respectively "
We must insist in the use of technology for conducting exams. Some universities who were hitherto conducting Post UME were using computers. Modern organizations now conduct their employment test using computers. Some organizations conduct promotion exams with computers in some cases. The use of Technology is not an option for me, is a must approach to use in order to minimize exams mal practice. No matter the pressure from parents, genuine or fake you must not abandon the use of Computer completely, in my view.
My suggestion to you is to collaborate with state governments, legislatures, (national and state),philanthropists, and corporate organizations such as commercial banks in establishing computer centers in public schools. In my understanding, most of the students that may have problem with computer usage are from the public schools. Convince the above mentioned to establish fully equip computer centers for the students of senior class in public schools.
Our legislatures rather than empowering political thugs should invest in computer training centers for their constituents.Corporate organizations should contribute to the public schools in this aspect so that those students from the public schools who are computer illiterate may come literate sooner than later. Parents must also be ready to pay the cost of computer education of their children.
Rather than abandoning Computer let's strengthen it. I am also happy that you are not completely abandoning computer for JAMB exams. You must not allow exams cheaters succeed.
May God bless Nigeria!
