POWER PLAY BY THE ALLAGED NEW CABAL AND WHAT OBASANJO TOLD EL-RUFA'I By Nurudeen Dauda August 15,2023 nurudeendauda24@gmail.com nurudeendauda@yahoo.com nurudeendauda.blogspot.com To begin with, several newspapers reported that there is a "real reason"not a "mere petition" that stalled His Excellency's Nasir Ahmad El-Rufa'i' CON ministerial confirmation. It is alleged that it has to do with a High Wire Politics and or a power play in the corridor of power. It is alleged that his non- confirmation is in connection with the 2027 and or 2031 election permutations. Several news outlets alleged that Messrs Ribadu, Kashim, Gbajabiamila, and Akpabio etc.,are behind the power game being played. However, whatever it is, it is left to be seen how the alleged power play will end. President Obasanjo once told El-Rufa'i thus: "Listen, let me tell you- you know , you have three problems. Each one of them is enough of a problem by itself , but you have all three. Your first problem is that you are very clever. People generally do not like clever people. You are clever . That alone will attract you enemies." "But you have a second problem - your second problem is that you look clever. One look at your face and a person knows that this one is very clever, and that is a bigger problem. Look at me . In my time, I was not as clever as you are. I have gone through your grades in school. You are very bright. You got A's in high school , A's in A levels, first class honours. I did not go to University but I took my high school graduation exams a year in advance and I also got A's so I was also clever in school. But I am lucky - God gave me a not -so- clever face . People think I am stupid . So you can not look at me and know what is going on in my brain. But in your own case , you do not have that luck. You know what I do? I behave like a bushman. See what that has done to me. I am here , far smarter people than me are out there. There is nothing you can do about your face, but you can reduce the enemies you have by avoiding the the problem of being too clever." "Your third problem - you speak clever, you act clever , you are impatient with people who are not as smart as you. You talk down to them. You do those things. So you have these these three problems... You are smart ; you look smart, talk and act smart. Many people will not like you. You must learn to look simple ,to be patient with people who can't think as fast as you . You must learn to talk less and listen more and agree even more with not -so- clever people. Unless you do that, you will continue to have problems and it is my duty to protect you, and develop you, because you are a good person..."- The Accidental Public Servant (p.127). It is widely held that Mr El-Rufa'i barring any last minute changes will be sent to a new ministry of Power and Energy. No country will thrive without adequate and constant electricity. Whether Mr El-Rufa'i or whoever we really needed someone with a proven capacity to transform the sector for our overall development. However, the quality of ones Federal Executive Council (FEC) not quantity will ultimately determine his administration's success. Although ministers are representatives of their states or regions or zones their work is for the entire federation. The value addition of a minister if any is essentially on his or her "inputs" in the FEC through "discussions" and "contributions" in all matters. Government is essentially driven by four major things, namely; policies, programmes, projects, and decisions. FEC is the body where government policies, programmes, projects, and decisions are made and collectively approved through the "inputs" of all council members in all "matters" not only on their supervising ministries. Policies, programmes, projects, and decisions of government are often being initiated from the ministries for fine-tuning and approval by the FEC in form of "additions" or "substractions" or completely "overhauling" of what comes up from the ministry through "discussions" and "contributions" of all council members. The work of a minister in a ministry is "supervision" or "coordination" or "management" of human and material resources of his or her ministry towards the "implementions" of government policies or programmes, or projects, and or decisions made and approved by the Federal Executive Council. Has Mr El-Rufa'i already been consumed by the alleged power play? Will president Tibunu who publically requested to work with him get him confirm by the Senate? Will he be persuaded to reconsider his alleged withdrawal? Only time will tell. May God bless Nigeria!
